Product Details
Manufactured in Germany's Black Forest from chrome-plated brass, the compact HORL Magnifier offers 3.5x magnification, so you can easily examine the grinding pattern of a knife's sharpened edge. This is the optimal amount of detail for evaluating the grinding pattern, as it lets you see the burr – tiny shavings of metal that surface when you sharpen a blade, invisible to the naked eye. (Normally, a burr is examined by running a finger along the blade and 'feeling' for a raised edge or loose metal; once the burr is felt, the blade is honed in order to remove the burr.) The locking ring can be unscrewed to clean the lens.
Please note: HORL products can only be shipped within the UK
Why we love it
'Like the HORL knife sharpener, this magnifier takes the guesswork out of determining whether you've sufficiently sharpened a knife's edge by showing you the burr.'

About The Brand
HORL 1993
Timo and Otmar Horl, the father-and-son duo behind HORL 1993 had a singular vision: bring professional standards of knife sharpening to the home cook, simplified. What began at a home cellar is now a fully-staffed workshop in Germany’s Black Forest where every aspect of the manufacturing process is done locally, from steel melding to laser engraving.
