Product Details
Made in Japan, the Naniwa Advance 220 Grit Sharpening Whetstone is ideal for restoring severely dull or damaged edges on blades. A premium Japanese coarse-grit stone, it's engineered to repair chipped edges, remove excess metal, and re-profile dull kitchen knives in minutes, making it an ideal whetstone for cooks who rarely sharpen their knives, as the coarser grit is best suited for very dull blades. Designed as a convenient splash-and-go whetstone, thanks to its unique resin construction it doesn't require soaking before use, and can simply be splashed on the surface with water before grinding. The abrasive stone cuts rapidly, making quick work of removing small nicks and sharpening blunt or neglected knives. It serves as an essential first step in any multi-stage sharpening setup before progressing to medium and fine finishing grits.
How to Use: Place whetstone on a stable surface. Splash the surface with water, find the angle on your knife blade, and stroke the blade from base to edge along the surface of the stone. Keep track of the exact amount of strokes you make. Repeat for the other side. Follow up with a higher-grit whetstone, like the Naniwa Advance 1000/3000 Grit Combination Whetstone, for honing and polishing.
How to Clean: Rinse the stone with water and let it air-dry completely before storing. Do not place in the dishwasher.
Why we love it
'If you want your knives to last the longest they can while performing in top condition, use a whetstone. This gentle yet effective method ensures knives are sharpened without shedding too much metal.'
