Product Details
Made in Japan, the Naniwa Advance 5000 Grit Honing Whetstone takes your knife edges from sharp to refined. It is a great choice for those seeking an ultra-smooth, polished edge that's a step above the standard Naniwa Advance 1000/3000 Grit Combination Whetstone. It has been engineered for high-precision honing and achieving a razor-sharp finish on your knives. Ideal as a final polishing step or a transition to micro-fine finishing, it efficiently removes fine burrs and refines blade geometry to achieve peak cutting performance on knives. (For ultimate refinement, follow it up with a Naniwa Advance 8000 Grit Honing Whetstone.) The stone provides a smooth cutting action and soft tactile feedback. Due to its unique resin construction, it is a convenient splash-and-go stone that requires no lengthy soaking and can simply be sprinkled with water on the surface before honing.
How to Use: Place whetstone on a stable surface. Splash the surface with water, find the angle on your knife blade, and stroke the blade from base to edge along the surface of the stone. Keep track of the exact amount of strokes you make. Repeat for the other side. Please note that this 5000-grit stone must be preceded by honing knives on a stones with a lower grit (e.g. 3000) in order to be effective.
How to Clean: Rinse the stone with water and let it air-dry completely before storing. Do not place in the dishwasher.
Why we love it
'This finishing stone is perfect for cooks who want a refined knife edge that's a step above what standard combination whetstones or knife sharpeners offer.'
