Product Details

Like its matching Netherton Foundry Wok, this iron lid is spun to a considerable thinness and is thus light to hold. The domed shape improves moisture-retention, as it allows condensation to drip back into the wok. The excellent heat-retaining capabilities of black iron will help retain the heat even more, making the wok-lid setup ideal for slow, gentle cooking. The knob is hand-turned oak, and will stay cool while the rest of the lid heats up.

Why we love it

‘The lid is super handy for steaming dumplings. I give them a quick fry in oil with the wok uncovered, then add a little water and cover—they’re done in just a few minutes.’

Specifications & Care

Care
  • Hand wash
  • Each pan is spun by hand, so each one is slightly different; they will not all be as flat as a billiard table. If you want to keep it as flat as you can, follow these simple guidelines:
  • Heat it SLOWLY to frying temperature, then you can use full power; especially important if you are using powerful cooking hobs such as induction
  • Use a hob ring the same size as the pan base; small rings WILL warp big pans
  •  Never drop a hot pan into cold water, this will buckle it
  •  If you are cooking meat or fish - oil the food, not the pan
  •  Don't fry food straight from the fridge; allow to come up to room temperature

About The Brand

Netherton Foundry

Netherton Foundry is a small-scale, family-run workshop based in Shropshire that makes cookware using time-honoured methods and materials. Their pots, pans, and select bakeware are made by turning whole plates of raw black iron on a lathe (which is from the 1930s) and shaping them with rods—an industrial process that gives their products an unparalleled lightness while preserving all the advantages of cast iron cookware, such as heat retention and durability. All their cookware is thoroughly pre-seasoned with flax oil for a natural easy-release finish.
