Product Details

Boos Blocks has specialised in wooden boards, blocks, and counters for culinary use since 1887. Popular with professional chefs and home cooks alike, their high-quality wooden boards can withstand vigorous slicing, dicing, and all manner of prepping, for decades. (To extend its lifespan, follow our tips for care and maintenance here.) This Maple End Grain Chopping Board keeps knife blades sharper for longer, due to a construction where the fibres, perpendicular to the surface, provide less resistance to the blades. Since the wood in this end grain board is highly compact, it has a self-repairing property where the fibres push back together quickly after impact with a blade, improving the board’s durability.

Why we love it

'Thick and robust, Boos Blocks are trusted for their hard-wearing construction and durability. In addition to being kind to knife blades, the generous surface is excellent for kneading dough and rolling pasta.'

Specifications & Care

Care
  • A minimum of once a month (depending upon the use), apply an even coat of food-safe mineral oil or board cream to all surfaces of your board using a clean cloth or disposable towel
  • Allow the oil to fully penetrate through the wood fibres overnight, then wipe away any excess oil
  • NEVER cut continuously on the same surface area; distribute your cutting over the entire work surface so that it will wear evenly
  • If your cutting board is reversible, it should be turned over periodically to allow even usage on both work surfaces
  • DO NOT use a razor-edged cleaver or serrated knife; these may chip or splinter the wood and produce soft spots
  • Minor scratches can be repaired by sanding the affected area with a fine grit (#200) sandpaper with the grain
  • Make sure the cutting board surface is free from any food debris, dirt, oil, or grease using a good steel scraper or spatula to keep the cutting surface clean and sanitary; do not use a steel brush on the cutting surface
  • Additional tips are included with your board
